Hello Parents, Grandparents and Guardians of existing and prospective Scouts.

Welcome to Troop 166’s new website!

I’d like to share a little about our Troop located here in Lakewood, CO as we enter our 65th year of successful scouting.

As Troop Committee Chair, I have the pleasure of volunteering with a number of adults who work in the shadows to keep the Troop functioning operationally.   While Troop 166 is truly a boy-led organization, it relies upon the adults to handle the many things necessary to provide scouting.  For instance, driving scouts to campouts and activities, keeping the books, ordering supplies including our Troop neckerchiefs, organizing events, coordinating with our charter organization Our Lady of Fatima Parish, setting up a website, and many more.

It occurs to me that the things which you don’t see behind the curtain of a Troop operation are the principal reasons scouting events appear to run organized and smoothly.  It doesn’t just happen by itself.  Whether it’s the Scoutmaster who mends the broken tent zippers, the Treasurer who ensures the individual Scout’s Troop accounts are up to date, or the adult leader who steps up to attend and drive scouts to a campout at the last minute when another adult is ill, those adults make a big difference to the scouting experience.  Those adults also lead busy lives with other priorities, yet they commit time to assist the Troop in its mission, ultimately to deliver a positive experience to our scouts.  That type of volunteering is a great example of servant leadership.  What I’ve noticed is the adults themselves seem to personify the Scout Law (i.e., being Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent).  So, the next time you attend a Troop 166 event or meeting, think about the committed adults behind the curtain who made it happen.  They are a big reason that the Troop has endured for 65 years.

I am truly thankful for their contributions and invite other adults to participate in Troop 166 and make a difference to our scouts.

    Thank you.
